Fold Power
Online poker players who know how to fold and actually play very few hands are most often the biggest winners. Chasing after lots of pots is a sure way to spew off chips. Usually whatever winnings are made are lost again from too loose play.
Folding is a key winning element of online poker tournaments. However, a player can take it to an extreme and play too tight. When this happens, observant players notice and lay down their cards to a tight player’s bet. When you play too tight, you minimize your profit potential which is the exact opposite of what you want to do in online poker games. When you hit a hand, you want to maximize its potential and the pot size.
Basically, you should fold a little more than your opponents, but not so much as to make it obvious that you’ve got a hand every time you stay in contention for pot. Limp into some pots with speculative cards from late position if for no other reason than to show a bluff at showdown if you can get there cheaply.
Play fewer hands than your opponents, just not noticeably so, and when you do hit a hand, bet it aggressively. Tight aggressive play is the hallmark of strong players who often win the hands they pursue.
